The Springhead Pub and Restaurant is located at the heart of the small Dorset village of Sutton Poyntz. Quietly tucked away beneath the chalk downs, the village has a unique beauty which awaits discovery, a mile from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, and only 3 miles north-west of Weymouth.

The Springhead enjoys an unrivalled location, with the River Jordan running sedately by and the village ducks happily paddling on the millpond which is edged by weeping willows. The Springhead gardens enjoy wonderful views of the Downs, with the chalk carving of George III on his mount on the hillside.

Amid this beauty and tranquillity awaits a warm welcome, fine ales and wines, and an excellent choice of food, freshly prepared and cooked by our Chefs. A log fire burns throughout the winter months providing a welcome haven. The Springhead is a great location to stop for a light bite and a pint, a more substantial bar meal, or a place to enjoy a fine lunch or dinner in our cosy restaurant.

The Springhead makes an idyllic location for Wedding Receptions, either in the Restaurant or in a marquee in the grounds. What better than having your photos by the millpond, and your Wedding Breakfast nestled beneath the Downs in this charming corner of Dorset.

At the Springhead we are experienced in catering for all types of functions including private dinners and celebrations, Christenings and Funeral Receptions.

   Our Restaurant menu offers a fine selection of freshly

   cooked food, prepared whenever possible from local

   produce. We specialise in local wild game when

   in season - our fillet of wild Purbeck

   Venison is especially sought after.

   Vegetarians are adequately catered for

   and Coeliacs will appreciate “gluten free”

   labelling on our menus. Fresh fish, sourced

   from local catches, appears on the daily

   Specials board, with whole wild Seabass

   and Brill making regular appearances.

 

 

Our Bar Menu includes traditional home-cooked dishes such as Steak and Ale Pie, Lamb’s Liver & Bacon, homemade burgers, as well as Fish and Chips, and a

range of baguettes, omelettes, baked potatoes  

and Ploughman’s lunches served with organic

bread.

The unsurpassed Springhead Carvery is served on

Sundays from 12 noon, with Fore-rib of Prime Dorset 

Beef, Leg of Pork and Roast Breast of Turkey, and

on occasion, Haunch of wild Dorset Venison, all

carved in front of you, accompanied by giant

homemade Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes,

roast parsnips, stuffing, a selection of seasonal

vegetables, and real gravy.
